Wow. I visited Pontevedra in the 90s, must have been shortly before they banned cars... I remembered a very dense hectic place full of cars :grimacing:

It is pretty amazing that they pulled that off.

An investgation covering 19 US cities -- including Seattle and Portland -- found that CenturyLink, Verizon, AT&T, and EarthLink routinely offer slow internet speeds to poorer neighborhoods for the same price as they offer higher speeds in other areas.

In two-thirds of the cities where there was sufficient data to compare, the worst deals were offered to the least-white neighborhoods, aligning with former redlining boundaries.

I was expecting this to be about voice analysis software. I don't think we ever had the real-time analysis option, but I seem to recall that there was an option with some call analysis service our Customer Care department used that could analyze a call in real time to alert Care Reps if customers were getting more upset as the call went on. It wouldn't have surprised me to read that someone claimed that their voice analysis could detect deception on the fly.

@Marshall Sutherland (streams test) true, I was also surprised by how "analogue" the story was; I think it goes to show that there's a demand side and broader problem, it's not just tech buzz and push, when we see police adopting dubious/bullshit tech.
