I've been a skeptic early on. An acquaintance did PR when they did their first crowdfunding. It took them a while but I think they delivered. They were using a BIOS with proprietary binary blobs, not sure if that was changed.

@Waitman Gobble I think what they managed to achieve was to completely separate the modem from the main computer, so the latter has no binary blobs, but the modem does because there is currently no alternative, and there's a hardware kill switch for it.

@h.EAR.t I'm choosing the earliest possible batch. For two reasons:

1. The intervals are sufficiently long that the next batch will be less "modern" when it comes out than the preceding one when it did, despite its improvements. The last batch comes out more than a full year after the first, and the only concrete advantage is a slightly better cpu.

2. If they actually manage to impact the smartphone market, which is what we're all hoping for, these things are going to become collector items and the earliest batches will be worth thousands of euros in the future.

There's also a third reason: when you meet your hacker friends you'll be cooler than anyone who doesn't own a Librem-5, but you'll also be cooler than all the other guys who own a newer batch than yours kkkk
