Monet's nymphéas are such a splendid artistic accomplishment that they are not simply displayed in a museum, they had a museum built for them.
Tonight, a few lucky people were present in the ellipsoidal rooms where they are displayed, while a dancer of rare talent, energy and breathtaking presence, François Chaignaud, interpreted - or rather blew life into - Isadora Duncan's language of movements, to the inspired sound of impeccable pianist Adriano Spampanato.
The picture above was taken as the public was beginning to arrive. We were seated very close to each other and to the performance, which sometimes overflew into the audience, an intimate and warm setting that Chaignaud artfully explores, in deep partnership with the nymphéas, to create a world where we are at the same time inside and outside - the museum, and of ourselves.
