Blocklists are primarily reactionary and don't scale. They're useful as a last resort. They don't work very well as your primary online safety tool.
We have a completely different vision of online safety in our forgotten and shunned corner of the fediverse, with completely different tools and wildly different outcomes. It's based on permissions.
The basic premise is that permissions work at scale and are preemptive, and put you in control. If your permissions are too lax, you can tighten them. If they are too tight, you can loosen them. There is nowhere in this story where your potential adversaries have any direct access to you that you didn't somehow grant (and can just as easily remove).
